re: budfox - question re gold co valuation methods The reality is that it takes many years of industry experience to be able to do a good realistic valuation of a mining project. It is a combination of geology, mining, metallurgy, etc - many many factors.

It is very very different to looking at a retail company and other typical businesses.

For the average joe public investor to attempt a valuation of a mining project would be sheer folly.

The investor is faced with two choices:

    1. Start a long term mission of learning about the industry to gain the necessary knowledge, or

    2. Tap into brokers, mining analysts, whom will release updated valuations.

The reality is that most investors buy mining stocks using charts, position trading, gut feel, a punt that an exploration program will be successful, etc.

Very few mining companies will release the required data to do a meaningful valuation. Some do, but it is rare.

Mining analysts usually have access to the required data hence they are the most fruitful source of information. It is one area where a good full service broking company will pay their way.
