Hey all. Anyone who doesn't live under a rock has probably seen this before. Get a glass/beer bottle/coke bottle/anything cylindrical, put it on a stable surface and spin it.
At first it'll just spin on the surface, but after a while it'll start to wobble and sometimes fall over. Does anyone know the scientific explanation for this? We had quite a few scientists disguised as waitress/waitors give their opinions but none of them added up.
I'm sure it's god something to do with friction but every explanation I come up with doens't explain why the bottle does not start wobbling straight away - it'll spin at first then fall over.
Regards.
