This is a link to news from midday today (15/3)
the problem is that another explosion occurred closer to the containment area of another reactor.

From what I understand the previously damaged reactors have cooled somewhat, or at least are no longer hot enough to melt through their containment structure which consists of steel and concrete - however the decay heat must still be absorbed and for this they need to keep the water levels up to the fuel rods, as the water evaporates. The electric pump system used to pump water into the chamber had failed earlier on - maybe they've solved that one, I don't know.

Spare a thought for the brave, stoic people dealing with this problem.
