Possibly nothing.
More realistically it comes down to size.
A big company can sometimes get away with it, due to size. But it's a two-way street, if a company pisses off a distributor too much or doesn't leave enough fat, they'll get dropped. The distributor might then pick up a competitors product and push that instead.
Depending on the companies size and relative demand for its products as well as other competition, will determine what value the distributor adds and hence what a company might try to get away with.
