I read that as being before they can do trials in combinations with other new DAAs, not as to whether they might hook up with a big pharma or not.
The end result, as you suggest, may not be until after 3 month trial results are in. However, a good result in the current HIV trial might generate sufficient interest for a big partner to jump in early. I'm still of the opinion that an early deal to get large funds in to power larger trials more quickly is the way to go if that can be achieved.
