Security is not an issue with LifX full stop, but pretty sure the app still meeds a wifi interface to work. The privacy issues were aimed at Google, Amazon and Apple in general. These companies collect data that would have made cold war CIA and KGB salivate. The security and ability to hack were aimed at the cheaper Wi-Fi bulbs.
