The low temp of the geothermal brine, around 160C requires the use of a Rankine cycle process where the heat of the brine water is exchanged into a fluid such as isobutine (similar to a refrigerant gas) that has a lower boiling point than water and runs in a loop isolated from any brine through turbines and condenser. The temperature of the brine, now down to about 80C is conveyed to the DLE plant, then reinjected back down to the aquifer. Scaling in the brine water lines is still an issue that requires periodical maintenance.
