well a normal day for tls slip sliding away Anyhow on a lighter note my best friend (will call him bill not his real name) told me today that he inherited 100000 tls shares from his hard working grandfather 12 months ago and he was trying to see if it was a good long term investment or not Probate was granted and the shares were valued at $6.30 per share ($630,000) at the time Now he has kept the shares up until now where the share price finished at$5.22 ($522000) He also adds that in this time he has received 0.31 cents in free money (dividends) and more free money franking credits But I had to point out to him (he called me a wet blanket) that he had lost $108000 in capital So quickly he subtracted $31 000 plus franking ,this becomes a little more complicated, but say $8000 ie 108000-39000=69000 Then he divided 69000by 365=$190 per day . Thereby he had lost in real terms$190 each and every day (yes even Sunday his day of rest and attending church) He could not believe it so he rang a broker and was told it was true As bill said his grandfather told him never to sell tls (silly old fool) What made it worse that today,in just 6 hrs he lost $2000 on the share price alone I tried to comfort him,that its not that bad as it was a gift and he didn't really contribute to gaining the shares His response was that he had to change the old farts nappies for years and to give him that advice( not to sell tls) on his death bed was stupid Then the corker was that I pointed out that if he sold the shares at $6.31 and put it in the bank at 3% he would have $630k plus $19k = $649 k and done nothing Oh well that's life Tls under pressure at $5.22
