The other thing Westfield and others are doing is transitioning more towards a "consume on premises" type model than ever before e.g. gyms, restaurants, child play centers etc so as to create a go to destination not just purely retail shopping model (clothes etc).
Having lived 2 years in Asia and seeing it first hand, we can't underestimate the appeal for shopping centers being a "day out" for those of Asian background, which we know Australia has a high % of Asian demographic in metro Australian cities e.g. Melbourne 1.0m, Sydney 1.2m (2016 Census Communities Profile) .
