Owe yourself Karl. Owe me nothing.
One of the main benefits I find to alternate nostril breathing is that both sides of the brain are stimulated by the regulation of the breath. Breathing through the right nostril stimulates the left brain and vice versa. So a solid 15 minutes charges the brain in equal measure - something it is otherwise not given. the body naturally shifts from one nostril being dominant to the other about every hour give or take but this practice does something far more.
The most important practice note is 'regularity'. Consistency is paramount. For maximum benefit, it should be a daily practice for a few years. Accomplished yogis have been doing it for millennia and the often live a long long time - sometimes far longer than the Western mind will readily accept as possible.
The science of breath is quite fascinating for my mind.
