I think that's fair enough.
Except that your realisation that it was hopeless may have been mistaken.
And my hope that it is not hopeless may be a mistake.
Either way, one of us made one mistake and one correct call and the other made two mistakes
We don't need those who are sadly embittered or full of their own self-importance (not talking about you at all, though you do have the right to feel bitter) to explain to us how wrong we were/are, before the scenario unfolds as it will.
Time will tell.
