every second bloke at the pub is a “soph”. It’s a pretty low bar, and an absolute misnomer - “financially stable punter” would be better.
Most in this category have no expertise or experience that would make them more sophisticated than other investors, and I would classify them as “retail”.
the whole rationale around “sophisticated investors” is to limit the stories on 60 minutes about poor people being ripped off. It’s ok if unscrupulous operators rip off “slightly wealthy” people.
