One of the most important things I have learnt in the market is how poor the market is at looking forward and how much it gets attached to the past. One of the investment opportunities I look for are companies where there has been a change in management and performance, but the market does not react to the change.
A good recent example of this in action was GCY (now SPR) where the management changed and the new management found a massive high grade gold deposit right next to their mill. The market just sat there for a few months with the SP stuck at sub-10c allowing me to accumulate a sizeable position. Eventually the market woke up and the SP is now near 50c. If the market was forward looking this should not have been possible.
