Yes, small volume bots are used by people who don't pay brokerage, i.e. brokers.
AFAIK the bot is trading in the opposite direction to a desired large trade coming up suddenly.
Sometimes you can trick the bot owner by grabbing the real trade before the bot owner does. If you can manage that, the bot will suddenly stop.
It's all good fun.
