I have tried to cover as much independent research as possible and explain graphs and statements in layman's terms, which can be found mostly in the
Pillar 1 - FTO (new thread). How I decipher information might help you do the same.
Coming into this investment with average research skills I can personally say that it takes a
long time to get your head around the data. I encourage you to take your time with each specific point and if a point relates to a specific graph, table, or figure, then take the time to read what is said and look at the supporting data to try see how it works.
Example below from the compelling preclinical breast cancer results:
The key points of the first sentence is talking about the MCF7 and MCF7/VP16 (resistant to etoposide) cells. The text states that MCF7/VP16 cells were more resistant to doxo and epi compared to parental MCF7 cells. So, when you check the table, you can see that parental MCF7 cells have resistance of 1.3 and 1.1, compared to 3.8 and 4.0. The information at the bottom of the table helps you to conceptualise the relationship.
Systematically working through all announcements like this has helped me to understand them, but also helps me to see additional information that may not be observable. Googling the MCF7 cell lines helped me to identify them as breast cancer cells that overexpress FTO. Google is 100% your friend and you can guarantee that if RAC have included something in a trial, there is going to be more information that is not disclosed in the announcement that you can flesh out by running it by google and being inquisitive.
The most crucial thing for my journey was the time requirement. It just plain and simply required a lot of time for me. You'll probably pick it up faster than I could. I absolutely agree with you that Bisantrene could have a place in reducing subcutaneous or visceral fat. This has been spoken about before and Dr. T has stated that there are far more FDA hoops to jump through for a weight loss agent compared to an anti-cancer agent. I have also looked at the role of
FTO and metabolic disorders, which I encourage you to have a look at for additional potential. I suspect that if clinical trials support that a very low dose of Bisantrene (~7.5 mg/m2) inhibits FTO and produces a clinically significant effect with no significant side effects, then a weight reducing agent direction could be on the cards. However, I firmly believe that in-human clinically significant efficacy data supporting low dose Bisantrene as an FTO inhibitor would mean that RAC would never have the opportunity to pursue that venture, but someone else might.
