You have done a good job of explained the immediate cash value of the options minus the time value. The time value does have real value too, but it is a little harder to understand.
If you are investing it is worth learning about how options are valued - it did earn Black & Schole a Nobel prize - well at least one of those fake Nobles handed out to economists.
