Cameroon will organize, in September, a round table of investors for the construction of 291 km of railways

(Business in Cameroon) - The Cameroonian government is preparing to organize a round table of investors, as part of the construction projects of the Edéa-Kribi-Campo (184.5 km), and Douala-Limbé-Idénau railway lines (107 km), or 291.5 km in total. According to the first hypotheses formulated on July 21, 2021 in the capital, during the meeting to review the feasibility studies of these two railway projects, the investors' round table could take place in the "second week of September 2021 ", we learn from good sources.

" Taking into account the amounts of funding to be mobilized for the development of the rail network, these projects will be carried out in PPP mode (Public-private partnership)", reveals an internal note from the Ministry of Public Works. The amount needed to carry out these two projects has not been revealed. However, we have learned that the two railway lines in gestation will be designed " with a double-track platform, a standard gauge (…) with the possibility of future electrification of the tracks ".

The construction of the two new railway lines mentioned above should make it possible to densify the national network. Moreover, the lines chosen will help boost economic activities in the country and with neighboring states. Indeed, the Edéa-Kribi-Campo section will not only serve the deep-water port of Kribi, in southern Cameroon, but also boost trade with Equatorial Guinea, from the border town of Campo (region from South).

At the same time, the Douala-Limbé-Idénau line directly opens the Cameroonian economic capital to Nigeria, a country with which an intense commercial activity has already developed from Idenau, in the southwest region of Cameroon.
