According to the video presentation by Nick Corlis, the distance to FMG's new rail line is 40km. However, looking at the map from that presentation if we could hook into their line due south it is only about 10 to 15km away. (See my edited version of the map using their existing scale).
This has the added advantage that we wouldn't have to build structures to cross the rio line as the FMG line does that already. This means that troublesome points and signal controls wouldn't be required to be built by us, not to mention that rio would probably say no-way-Jose to us anyway.
