'The Weekly Times' on Wednesday 4 November 2020 has a front page story 'Fields of Gold' with rain four weeks ago said to be '$100 million rain'.
A Millewa (Mallee, area around Walpeup and Underbool Vic) graingrower describes the turnaround in seasons as 'phenomenal' while a southern NSW farmer said 'crops were best in my farming career if we can get them off (without weather related issues).'
At Culgoa in the Victorian Wimmera, a farmer described crops as 'excellent' while at Minyip not far from Horsham, another said crops will now be 'above average'.
At Werrimull in Victoria's Mallee, a graingrower said he didn't harvest last year but this year, yields are above average with some barley pushing 3-3.5 tonnes per hectare'.
Up at Moree in northern NSW (which is north of Gunnedah where the above photo was taken), a garingrwoer said 'barely yields are looking exceptional and wheat is looking good', saying that havesting started early this year on 10 October 2020. Storms were said to be 'isolated' and some 'individual properties have had devastating losses'. Yields around Moree were 'above average' although in the Central West (further south), 'good yields were slowing contractors down'.
A Victorian graingrower remarked that 'there seems to be a lot less wheat (available for) the world (i.e. overall across nations) than what people thought there was, and canola is also quite strong'.
