Completely concur with your comments re mainland communist China. The regime only takes notice of nations that stand up to it. It's very hard to know the true state of its economy as the statistics may be questionable, but it has a gradually ageing workforce form the rescinded, disastrous 'one child' policy, state owned enterprises that in many cases are bankrupt and difficulties in two widely disparate parts of the nation (including the SAR that we'd hope is apart but is increasingly not).
I haven't been to Canada or the USA in the last three years but it has no better relations with either than with us, so that leaves Europe and Russia as major grain sources for it should Xi wish to play a hard ball game with us and the first two.
