I share your cynicism at those who always imply they 'sell at the top and buy at the bottom.'
This simply isn't usually possible for the likes of me, so why pretend otherwise? I always recall those old J B Were (when it was an independent broker) favoured sayings of 'no one rings a bell at the top of the market' and 'straw hats in winter.'
I have to trust the judgment of those at GNC re this insurance (hedging) arrangement, as it's counter intuitive to suggest that after considering it closely, the promoted man would suggest it was a dud given his governance duty to be upfront with the Board and investors. This isn't naivety on my part: these people have tools at their disposal (or that can be brought in) to analyse the efficacy of such insurance.
