Rain gives farmers 'best start' in 20 years

The Queensland Murray-Darling Committee says the state's rain has given farmers the best start to a year in about two decades.
Most areas have received more than 100 millimetres of rain this week, with some properties drenched with floodwaters.
Committee spokesman Geoff Penton says once the waters recede and the damage is fixed, farmers will reap the benefits.
"I think it's one of the best starts to a year the region's had for possibly 20 years," he said.
"Overall what this is likely to mean is a huge kickstart to the next cropping season for both dry land and irrigated crops in the lead up to next summer."
