I don't see how an inactive mine is going to produce much water pollution, even if we were discharging water all the time, which won't be the case. We're not disturbing new ground. Nothing is going to be perfect but this should be about as good as we'll get for now, especially when the alternative energy generation involves constantly mining more coal and all the associated environmental costs with that.
