Hard to know, too many variables in the ships behaviour to pinpoint really why at anchorage for 16 days...
We know, Monson agents acting on behalf of both parties plan logistics weeks in advance and there is always a contingency timespan built into any ever evolving schedules incase of unforeseen delays in transit heading South over multiple legs between loading /unloading at other ports for when the ship finally arrives at its destination .
As this particular ship arrived at anchorage the very same day it was scheduled too means its achieved an extra few days at anchorage that it may not otherwise have had should it have had a possible delay heading down under.
And when it comes to the use of a very busy berth PH2 over the last 2 weeks which by my count, involved 2 copper shipment carriers, 3 General cargo carriers and a further 3 day lithium loading, (yet to confirm) its a case of waiting in line . Any delays pertaining to these earlier shipments from the berth may well have had a bearing to the future berthing schedules.
Maybe PLS need their own designated use berth(s). Just like BHP,RIO, FMG, MIN, Roy Hill,
And indeed knowing the particular vessel while out at anchorage will be taking a bigger shipment than usual , CUBE will have been restocking their sheds massively up front ,in earnest to be able to deliver the product aboard within the shortest period of time once the ship is at the berth which is in such high demand by others. PLS will of course have ramped up the supply of product at their end....
Hence an extended time out at anchorage for FEDERAL ICON appears to add up especially if CUBE had to load a further lithium shipment just recently not withstanding the winning spoils of the BMX#2 auction we knew was said to be leaving in November ....
As for the great costs involved when it comes to vessels in down- time sitting moored off the coast waiting....
How is that paid for? Shipping companies id imagine would wear it!..An interesting side story id imagine.
