not sure if you got a reply but I'll give it a crack basis 15 years in bulk logistic as a shipping agent, the bulk of that up in the Pilbara.
yes & no re part cargoes. not unusual for a ship (they have say 7 or 9 seperate cargo holds). they might drop in at a port (say Esperance and load IO into holds 1/3/5/7 & 9) then steam up to port hedland to load Li into the even holds. obviously it gets a tad complicated re two consignments etc to different buyers of different cargoes etc but it would all be documented in the vessel charter etc re demurrage when they are waiting at the anchor etc. much easier to load a single product but by no means a game changer. obviously if it's a split cargo then they are separated and no chance of product contamination etc etc. hope that helps.
