POSCO JV
In April 2022, we finalised a joint venture (JV) in South Korea with POSCO to develop a lithium hydroxide conversion facility in Gwangyang, South Korea. (ASX Announcement 11 April 2022).
The JV places Pilbara Minerals and POSCO in a strong position to participate in the chemical conversion industry as one of the few near-term lithium chemicals producers outside of China with underwritten raw materials supply from the Pilgangoora Project. Approximately, 315,000 tpa of spodumene concentrate will be supplied to the facility on commercial terms.
Construction of the conversion facility is underway, with commissioning expected to commence in the second half of 2023 calendar year with ramp up in 2024 calendar year.
If indeed some of our white gold has now gone to South Corea, I think we're right on schedule with the plant and I'm looking forward to an early first announcement in 2023 which will read as follows.
"First lithium hydroxide produced and sold to battery manufacturer and Pilbara increases early stake in JV to 30%"
