Mine Well Placed To Meet Global Nickel, Cobalt Demand
August 23, 2018
THE country’s only nickel-cobalt mine in Madang province is well placed to benefit from the rapidly-rising metal demand as the battery technology unfolds for these metals.
Vice president of the miner- Ramu NiCo (MCC), Wang Baowen highlighted this to executives of the Bank South Pacific (BSP) during a visit to the company’s Madang operation base last week.
Wang said the rapid growth in the production and sales of electronic vehicles and increased development of large scale battery storage is driving the global demand for nickel and cobalt.
He said with the company’s monthly production maintained well above 3000 tonnes and production capacity above 106 per cent, Ramu NiCo (MCC) is currently leading the industry of red laterite development and hydro-metallurgy worldwide.
Mr Wang said the company is also challenged by constant deterioration of international market but it had successfully managed to cut operational costs while increasing efficiency through management optimisation.
He pointed out that Ramu NiCo would continuously pursue the management philosophy of “efficiency, cooperation, perfection and innovation”, advocate study and creation, respect cultural differences and expand its global vision.
The BSP delegation expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Ramu NiCo and the vice president for hosting them during their visit to Madang.
The BSP visit to Ramu NiCo (MCC) last week was to introduce the BSP senior management team comprising group general manager corporate Peter Beswick and general manager treasury Rohan George.
