Thanks Drew, altho I think I'm a bit exhausted with a rabid majority here.

I don't know the exact cost, and haven't been able to find the details on line either. I suspect it would be less than $20 AUD at a public hospital. This is based of the following:
--> the radiographer is paid an annual salary regardless of how many scans are taken, so whether a scan is taken or not will not change the radiographer price
--> the machine is always on and ready to be used regardless
--> electronic system means no physical films need to be printed out
--> the Dr looking at the scan is also paid an annual salary and is paid regardless or whether the scan is taken or not
--> the ward staff to bring the pt down to the radiology room are also paid per hour, not per person transported (which trust me, you can definitely tell they get paid by the hour, not by the person!)

That leaves the actual cost of taking a CXR largely from the actual process of obtaining the Xray itself, which would be very inexpensive, hence the sub-20 dollar estimate.
