To add, it would seem very likely that patients have made multiple visits presenting with same and even different resp illnesses. All very innocent. However this then opens the trial to queries relating to the integrity (thru possible padding) of the data collection, as elaborated in the above post. I would say a researcher picked up on this issue and after discussion all came to the decision to make the exclusion rather than subject the study to such risk. The sample size of these occurrences might have been small but I think management is wise to not leave the study open to being undermined by an avoidable issue
On a somewhat related issue wonder how the app would fare with comorbidity - eg say a patient with asthma/influenza. Would it be able to diagnose both illnesses in the same patient? Seems possible, and wonder if thats been done.
