Rapid antigen testing could become more important as states moves away from COVID-zeroThe Australian Medical Association says rapid antigen tests will become more important as states and territories give up on eliminating the Delta variant. Until now, rapid tests have not been prioritised because they are not as accurate as PCR tests.But the AMA's Dr Chris Moy says at-home tests can reduce the number of people carrying the disease in the community and give people faster assurances."They do have a potential place at home as it means people don't have to go out and you can have the test and work out whether you are positive before you go out."In somewhere like South Australia at the moment, it's really got a very, very limited use. In somewhere like NSW things are completely the opposite way around."Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has indicated faster self-administered tests could soon be approved for use by the TGA.Reporting by Henry Belot
