The amount of batteries you need to make the same distances when carrying a commercial load when compared to turbine or piston aircraft is no where near it to make it commercially profitable.
I think hybrid technology wth engines is a distinct possibility for the near future.
The issue is this . When you fly you burn fuel and use loose weight from the fuel carried on board hence you can more load.
With batteries you don't lose the excess weight less load to carried.
I know in some training aircraft they have made 2 seat recreation aircraft fly on 30 mins charge. Thats the best so far. Bye the time you do all your checks and waiting time for clearances ect you are probably going to waste precious battery life.
Hopefully. if things do change in future you would expect the company to evolve with engine technology and position them selves to take advantage .

engine tech in aviation is like one of the slowest changing industries in the world. Even new PT6E is just a tweak Or enhancement of the same design decades ago.

the risk of product obsolescence / disruption is so low. who wants to be a guinea pig to test the new tech?
