In the drilling permit application - the so called "W-1 filing" - for Gilbert-Freman #3 the operator defined explicitly 3 different "fields" as targets for this well:

W-1 filling for GF3

1. CYPRESS EAGLE (WILCOX) - Primary Field - completion depth 12,700 feet
2. EGYPT (COOK MTN. 8300) - completion depth 8,350 feet
3. BERNARD, W. (COOK MT. 7800) - completion depth 7,850 feet

Last week they drilled the section of the latter

They run wireline logs over the interval in question - so they should know if there is gas and something about the reservoir quality

That they set a liner and not a casing could be a hint, that they plan to take this section in production in the future (but can also mean that they simply like to reduce completion costs).
