The cost of Healthcare in the USA is a ticking time bomb driven by a Demographic Tsunami. Healthcare costs are the biggest threat to the nation’s balance sheet.

More Americans are living longer and by law the government is obliged to spend more and more. The problem is that the spending is being financed out of borrowings and not taxes. This year 2009, 73 million Baby Boomers turn 62 and can claim early retirement and Social Security. In 3 years time they turn 65 and can claim Medicare on top of social security.

Currently the national debt is 13 trillion and as a share of the US economy is 82%.
40% of the Federal budget goes toward paying for Social Security and Medicare.
The biggest threat to the Nations Balance sheet is Healthcare. The National Debt is projected to grow from current $13 trillion to $21 trillion by 2017 and at this point it is projected to be more than the economic output of the country.


It is now of such concern that recently China, America’s biggest lender/financier warned that so much borrowing has them worried.
