You don't have to go back very far to find Australia being the scared little white dude in the deep south. And they or we had reasons.

Why do you think that Labor is revamping the defence forces?

No nation is benevolent. Not Australia, not the US nor China. Power is balanced, and the US balance power in our favour on the world stage and in particular in Asia. Without the existent balance of power, a new era begins. Take away US power in the A-Pac and see what happens. In that new era, I can't see the CCP benovolently lending money to Australia so that we can continue to have nice houses and nice cars.

We can be strong, but only under the rubric of China (if the US is not strong). That may be fine if you are prepared for a lifestyle change. Now that would push up the price of gold in Aussie yuan.
