    Do not penalise individuals.

Government at all levels are to blame.
More land needs to be opened up and more areas zoned for high density living.
But more importantly the red tape and delays have to stop.
It takes forever to have plans approved and processed at council and state level.
And you will need an energy efficiency report here in SA.
This report isn't cheap. If you choose a light coloured roof colour the report costs $1200.
If you choose a dark coloured roof colour then the report costs $3500.
From beginning to start to starting can be 12-18 months.
Then there are delays with concreting, timber supplies, window supplies and labour availability.

Individuals can do what they like with their properties.
Live in, long term rental, short term rental or leave vacant.
Does anybody tell you what to do with your car purchase, your food and clothing purchases?
If you want a totalitarian state where everyone is housed equally then I've got news for you.
    It doesn't exist.
If you want rents to ease off then governments have to increase supply.
You also need to reign in inflation because interest rate rises are passed onto tenants by landlords.
You also need to reduce immigration because large numbers coming in adds to demand and therefore increases the price of rentals.

Maybe the homeless should have tried harder at school.
Maybe they should get a job.
Maybe they should give up alcohol, cigarettes, drugs and gambling.
Maybe they and the left should take some personal responsibility.
We are all part of the animal kingdom where the well tried motto still prevails - survival of the fittest.
Pandering to the weak in a group gets everyone destroyed in the long run.
