Sorry mate, but I think it might be you that needs a nice strong cup of coffee.
I think that most would agree that selling raw materials only to buy them back at a premium in the form of a value added product inevitably leads to a short-lived existence.
Yes, Australia is primarily, and almost exclusively, a prrimary producer....but how long do you think that Australia can live off the sheep's back?? If industry and jobs are not promoted, protected and encouraged to, firstly, remain here, and secondly, be established, keeping our jobs and our money in this country, then our fate is signed and sealed. It doesn't take that many people to pull some ore out of the ground, and transport it to a port...and only a select few reap the spoils there. Pray tell, when all other industries have been moved offshore, how will the rest of the population be gainfully employed??
And the powers that be???
Who exactly might that be...GW Bush and the WTO? The US stick to the guidelines and rules that they established via the WTO ONLY when it suits them. They protect their own far more than we do, and do so when they like, regardless and in the face of existing WTO protocols.
Yours views are somewhat shortsighted, and quite frankly, simple.
