That makes no sense at all. Capping skilled migration at 140k will only make matters worse. Housing is tight not because of migration, but because of increases in the real wage of workers and State Government's not releasing land. Moreover, if migration were capped where would the desperately needed workers come from?? WA already has an unemployment level below 4% and there are projections showing that the labour shortfall in the mining sector will reach six figures!! If this happens wages will continue to rise as competition becomes even more fierce and interest rates will surely rise in response. All of this go without even touching on the effect capping migration would have on any other sector of the economy.
