I think you missed the point. The statement he made was back in 2013. 3d metal, plastic was very immature.
It is 2017 now, the 3D industry start to take shape in many forms.
His company are investing in R&D and partnership with rbo. Why go through all this effort to partnership with a start up company?
Foxconn competitors have backed up many 3D printing companies. Do you think he will let his company stay behind the race?
Nokia once dominated 95% of the phone market.
