I would not be so sure that resistance was impossible to develop. Don't forget there are extremophile bugs that live in very harsh environments that are entirely lethal to most bacteria. Including living happily in battery acid. When it comes down to bugs, where there's a will there's a way.
I would say RCE will be a wonderful drug for sure if it does what it promises. But penicillin was itself regarded as a wonder drug that could cure all things when it first appeared. My father was one of the early soldiers treated with it in WW2. I would not be here now if it was not for penicillin. Unfortunately, and there is undoubtedly no connection, but I developed an allergy to penicillin after doing drug assays in the lab.
Lets just hope medical science learns from its mistakes in using penicillin willy-nilly to treat sniffles and bulk up chickens when it comes to using RCE appropriately. Impossible is a very strong word. Evolution is stronger.
