I've thought of conditional trading often but it seems to be harder to execute than one might imagine. The greatest barrier is a "gap" up or down when news is out. Applies to stop losses and conditional rising buys you can have a nice conditional order in place but sp just gaps right through it and the order does not get executed. Very important to be aware of this especially if you rely on automatic stop losses.
Not only do automated trades have an issue with gaps, same can be said of daily spikes. When it does trade in the range of automated order and trigger a buy or sell only to fall straight back to start price. All in all best policy seems to be either hold if you believe the story, or alternatively buy/sell after the first retrace of a big move after news?
