EXCLUSIVE-Philippine mining inquiry calls for law review 14:33, Friday, 19 May 2006
MANILA, May 19 (Reuters) - The Philippines' mining law, in particular its provision allowing 100 percent foreign ownership, should be reviewed, a report into spills at a mine run by Australia's Lafayette Mining Ltd. said on Friday.
The Rapu-Rapu Fact-Finding Commission (RRFC) also called for a moratorium on mining on the island of Rapu-rapu, about 350 km (220 miles) southeast of Manila, after two cyanide spills in October at the Lafayette zinc and copper mine.
