I remember Marious Kloppers saying that he shouldn't have let FMG pass under his radar when they had their window of opportunity to a possible takeover so why would they let Sundance get taken over by the Chinese with all the potential iron ore in the ground and control of the railway. More importantly I hope they have done a costing of how many billions they could lose over the decades to come if they have lost the ability to directly control the iron ore price. I should think the price of purchase would pale in comparison against $$ lost there. Also why doesn't BHP go a 50/50 JV partnership with RIO so risks - which there are still plenty can be shared equally but also any anger the Chinese may habour over such a takeover can not be directed against either company alone, reducing the risk of favouritism.
