THE immediate family of the late Francis Ona has supported the call by Autonomous Bougainville Government President Joseph Kabui to open discussions on mining in Panguna. During a recent family reunion, family spokesman Lawrence Daveona said the family supports Mr Kabui's call in opening dialogues and the review of the Bougainville copper agreement. "This is a step in the right direction and a timely call. The national government, the Bougainville Copper Ltd, the ABG and the Panguna landowners should come together and negotiate," Mr Daveona said. He said the reopening of the mine would spearhead economic recovery, but contentious issues would include the government's shareholding in BCL and how the landowners are going to be accommodated. Mr Daveona also said the family had called on the Bougainville administration to fully support the reconciliation initiative by Panguna landowner families
