The situation is very different today when compared to 2017/18. In that the forward demand is currently outstripping supply, and there is no quick fix available, government policy is underpinning the demand as far out as one can see. Mac banks "Perpetual Deficit" analogy best describes the situation, which is inline with multiply reporting agencies.
I understand your hedging bets analysis, but for me, the AW's are piling in for purpose of accumulating and re-accumulating, alternatively a TO strategy. Those short are paying loan fees, so I ask, how does that impact a hedge strategy over time.
The smack down of the sp was not PLS specific, the whole sector got a kick in the gooleys. Manipulation, to create liquidity, aka robbing weak handed retail of their shares.
