record mineral exports Export earnings surge to record $90.5b
Australia's export earnings from the minerals and energy sector have surged to record levels.
The Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics (ABARE) says they totalled $90.5 billion for 2005-2006.
That is an increase of 32 per cent over the previous financial year.
Higher prices were achieved for about 85 per cent of the commodities shipped by Australia and export volumes grew for just over half of them.
The biggest increases in export earnings were for coal, iron ore and copper.
