first up is the integrated home charging station, with solar feeding a battery during the day and then the car being charged overnight. No need for the grid in that case.
eventually government policy will determine how quickly EV is adopted, either by making conventional fuel/vehicles too expensive or by subsidising EV and ensuring the infrastructure is in place.
Peak Tarrifs on time of charge would help solve the problem you describe but there’s a long long way to go before we get there, in Australia at least.
