IT is quite variable in respect of how much of it's technique it wears on its sleeves. I originally started to train as an Electrical Engineer (long time ago) before being seduced first by Electronics and then by Computing. The thing that always strikes me as the biggest cutural difference between Engineers and IT professionals is the former's large catalog of standardised designs and methods - the IT crowd are always starting over and often reinventing the wheel. Its easy to forget just how young IT is as a discipline compared to Engineering or Medicine but the signs of that youth are everywhere when you look.

On another tack, I never did hear about whether the floods got as far as the Cooper - I keep wondering if that might have affected subsurface conditions.
