Hi Bob, personaly, POSCO as a partner could be a very good fit. However, both Toyota & VW setting up shop in China at present, with VW expecting to produce100k EV's out of China next year, same for Toyota, but not sure on number of expected units. Many OEM's are setting up, already set up in China (i.e. BMW mini-e) which will be on the road later this year.
As you are aware, there is a shortage of batteries already, which for me leads to more questions than answers atm. For example, I read an article in relation to US residential & mirco-grid storage last week, the installed capacity doubled in 2018 over 17 and is expected to double again in 2019, but the article stated growth would have been higher if it wasn't for battery shortages.
As above, more questions then answers. What's your take on the supply chain, with regards to bottlenecks, either at the chem converter, cathode maker, etc?
I can't quite understand the tardiness of chem converters, particularly if China is looking for world EV manufacturing and s/chain domination. Is China prioritising production for enternal consumption, starving ROW until they meet their targets.
Many of the non-China OEM's are heavily reliant on cells from China & SKorea.
Is the transition from carb to hydox chems creating the bottlenecks?
Is there a shortage of battery grade feed, slowing the converters through extra processing, etc?
