re: lower tomorrow up 3percent now.... Doesn't always work if the Dow and the FTSE go in opposite directions... was talking about the case where broader equity markets are either declining or advancing, as they have done the last few days. If BHP in the UK goes up 2%, but the Dow goes down 200 points, then the ASX will take a hit too, and BHP is about 10% of the ASX. If you're selling Australian indices, you're selling BHP.
But when you don't have contrarian indications, ADR's will set the range and UK, if it's trending strongly, should tell you upper or lower end of the range...
Remember BHP's share structure, the UK listing is actually a separate company, BHP Billiton PLC, whereas the ADR's in the US are just a derivative of the Australian shares.
Just to confuse things, the UK company has it's own ADR listing, the code is BBL I think.
