biscuit, why is it that nobody approached the sheik himself for a translated version, that is something I always did when I wanted to be certain I understood what was intended to be said by someone. It is not enough to simply to translate words without knowing the thoughts behind them, because ultimately it is the thoughts, not the words that are what it is all about. If you do not approach the person concerned and exclude them from the translation process, not only there is a chance that the message will be wrongly interpreted, but in situations such as this, the author can perhaps quite rightly claim to be misquoted. You really have to ask why it was done the way is has been done, did the newspaper want to create a controversy? They appear not to have approached the sheik to allow him to qualify and correct what they perceived to be his words. Any thinking person should be asking themselves why this is so, and what is the motivation that causes them to avoid doing what is considered good journalistic practice.
